So I decided to try something: I took a small square cut of aluminum foil, about 3 inches by 3 inches or so (not exact measurements that I used, just approximate). Polymer + torque from your hands gripping = Polymer losing the battle and getting chewed up. The barrel nut is hardened steel, the handguards are polymer. From the repeated torque I put on the handguards when handling the weapon (as one should always do to control their weapon) I found those little "nubs" got slightly chewed away on their contact points with the barrel nut grooves (the grooves are quite sharp actually). What I found was the inner "tabs" at the rear section of the top and bottom handguards had little "nubs" that would lock the handguards into position on to the rifles' barrel nut grooves. So I removed the handguards to investigate what could be causing the slight looseness/wobble. Rigid/solid areas to grip on are always best in my opinion.
Enough to bug me, especially if I were to run this rifle in a high speed class or situation. It went from zero play, airtight fit at first, to having slight rotational movement. After using my rifle only a bit at the range, and doing practice manipulation-drills at home by myself, the MOE handguard started to become a little loose. So I went ahead and added some Magpul rail sections, a Magpul Vertical Grip, and my Surefire 6P to go along with it.įast forward to present day.
